County eyes 1st Street jail site

January 15, 2014

Following a pair of productive brainstorming sessions between members of the Adams County Judicial Needs Committee, sheriff’s department staff, architects, contractors and Decatur city officials, County Attorney Mark Burry informed Adams County Council members Tuesday morning they have narrowed the options for the possible location of a combined superior court and county jail facility. A new circuit building is not included in the most recent plans.
According to Burry and David Sholl of the Fort Wayne architectural firm Schenkel/Shultz, seven different configurations of the dual purpose structure were considered, with members of the committee determining to pursue options available to the county at various locations in Decatur on 1st Street, south of Monroe Street.
