County escapes flu bug so far

While reports of influenza cases are increasing at a rapid pace throughout Indiana, Adams County thus far has seen no cases.
According to  Adams County Memorial Hospital Infection Preventionist Liz Fisher,  “The flu is where we expect it to be this time of year. Christmas time means lots of get-togethers and nobody wants to miss Christmas, thus the flu spreads quickly and many people come in with symptoms following the holidays.”
The Indiana State Department of Health helps identify the strains of flu infecting individuals.  The H1N1 virus is by far the most common, holding more than 52 percent of all cases of the flu,” said Fisher.
“The strain that developed in 2009 is unusual; it was dominantly showing up in those in the prime of their lives,” Fisher explained.
