County to dissolve park-rec pact

June 26, 2013

Adams County Attorney Mark Burry presented to the county commissioners at their meeting on Monday the letter he has drafted to dissolve the county's agreement with Decatur's parks and recreation department, as the department will soon undergo major changes.
The commissioners approved the letter, emphasizing a need to meet with Mayor John Schultz, potentially to discuss a new agreement.
The commissioners also asked Burry to meet with Decatur City Attorney Tim Baker to discuss how a new agreement might work, as many programs involve both the city's parks and recreation department and the county's.
City and county parks and rec director Steve Krull is retiring at the end of the year and the city will not replace him; instead, it is placing that department and several others under the overall supervision of Jeremy Gilbert under the new title of operations manager.
