Council grows impatient on Craig home condition

September 19, 2013

A new day, a new month and another deadline passed. "And I don't see anything has happened," Decatur Mayor John Schultz said at Tuesday night's city council meeting, referring to the George Craig property at Second and Jackson streets.
Councilman Ken Meyer raised the issue, asking at the meeting if anything had been done to clean up the place.
"I haven't seen any progress; we're going to have to address that," the mayor said, promising a visit to the home yet this week.
The mayor said Craig had been given a Sept. 9 deadline to show some progress.
City officials have been trying for some time to get Craig to clean up the propety. Code Enforcement Officer Bill Karbach said at a meeting in early August that Craig had promised him something would be done, but no progress was seen.
