Cook will take over as new top cop in Decatur

May 21, 2014

The Decatur Police Department is not only looking to moving into a new station, possibly by the end of this year, but the department is also going to be taking on a new personnel look at the top.
Mayor John Schultz announced at Tuesday night’s city council meeting that Deputy Chief Greg Cook will takeover as chief next month. Detective Lt. Mike Mahan will assume Cook’s role as second in command.
The changes were precipitated by the pending retirement of longtime Chief Ken Ketzler, a 38-year veteran of law enforcement whose final day on the job will be June 27. Cook and Mahan will assume their new duties that day.
Schultz said a new detective will be named at a later date, to join Leonard Corral Jr., the department’s other detective.
