Commissioners seek specifics on Decatur’s court site proposal

September 3, 2014

The Adams County Commissioners submitted an official letter to the mayor and members of Decatur City Council Tuesday afternoon, asking “for more specifics concerning money, exact demolition costs, purchase price and environmental concerns” in relation to the city’s recent proposal to help the county absorb the expenses involved in locating the planned superior court building on 1st Street at the site of the Schafer building.
Commission Chairman Doug Bauman began the weekly judicial review update by noting the commissioners “represent all of Adams County.” Residents are best served, he said, by selecting a site for the new superior court complex which is amenable to both the county and the city.
The commission chairman said Decatur Mayor John Schultz’s tentative offer last week “to assist, or rather entice, us to consider the 1st Street location” is something the county continues to consider, but indicated commissioners would like the Decatur officials to “put into writing what the city is willing to do.”
