Colclasure 5th in GOP council field

January 31, 2012

Randy Colclasure

Adams County native Randy Colclasure of Decatur has announced his candidacy for a Republican nomination for an at-large seat on the Adams County Council.
He was originally elected to the council in 2000 and currently serves as its president while in his third council term.
Colclasure, 45, has worked in the accounting field for the past 24 years.  He said in making the announcement that he hopes that with his experience in accounting, budgets, and fiscal demands, he can continue helping Adams County by making sound and sensible fiscal decisions.  With his county council experience, he said, he intends to improve the needs of the county while being fiscally sound.
Having lived in Adams County his entire life, his main objective is doing what is necessary for the good of the county, Colclasure added.
Colclasure is currently employed with American SportWorks LLC in Fort Wayne.  He has also worked at Tokheim Corporation in Fort Wayne, as well as at Pizza Hut of Fort Wayne, Inc., and the Decatur Publishing Company, both here in Decatur.
He has been a member of the Adams County Sheriff’s Reserve organization, a board member of the Decatur Planning Commission, and the Decatur Board of Zoning Appeals.  While on the county council, Colclasure has participated on the county Board of Appeals, the county planning commission, and the Adams County Community Corrections board.
“The past four years have been a trying time for council," Colclasure said in his announcement. "The state is restricting the cash a county uses to operate.  They put caps on county government, but do not cap their own income.  If they need more money, they either reduce the amounts the counties get or raise the state tax.  A county has to find ways to live within its means regardless of the unfunded mandates passed down from the State..
“As a county, we need to continue to be thrifty with our money.  Meanwhile, if there is a necessity for spending money, and it is in the best interest of Adams County, we have to be willing to spend wisely now for our future.”
Colclasure is a 1985 graduate of Bellmont High School in Decatur and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Tri-State University.
He is a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, the Moose Legion, the Eagles Lodge and the Sons of the American Legion.
His parents are Judy Colclasure of Fremont, Indiana, and the late Ronald Colclasure.  Ron and Judy lived and were active in Decatur for almost 30 years before retiring and moving to Fremont in 1987, the candidate said.
Randy and his wife of almost 26 years, Michelle (Tricker), have two children,  Dareck, and Krysten, and three grandchildren.  Michelle is employed at SP3 Cutting Tools Inc. in Preble.
Colclasure concluded “I am proud to have served the people of Adams County for the past 11 years and if the voting public wishes me to continue fighting for them, I am offering my services again for the next four years.”
