Clint Saunders bowls over competition

Bellmont's Clint Saunders defeated Eli Little of Huntington with a sparkling 253 (to 156) in the championship match of the Hoosier Conference Boys Bowling Tournament, held this past Saturday at Bluffton.

Saunders qualified fourth in the preliminary round, tossing a solid 644 series to earn one of 16 slots in the championship bracket.
A single-elimination tourney followed, with Clint going through with three match-play round victories.
Bellmont's Trevor Saunders earned fourth in the tourney, falling in the semi-final round, 213-176.
Seven teams representing area schools competed in the annual event: Bellmont, Bluffton, Norwell, Southern Wells, Jay County, South Adams and Huntington North.
Seven bowlers represented Bellmont in that preliminary roundn. They rolled the following scores: A.J. McCoy 483, Dan Gage 511, Josh Montgomery 513, Austin Tricker 517, Justin Hamrick 529, Trevor Saunders 558, and Clint's 644.
Trevor advanced to the playoff with the 14th best tally.
In the first round, Clint won 235-188, and Trevor won 221-162. In the second round, Clint won 224-215, and Trevor won 203-183. In the semi-finals Clint won 214-212, and Trevor lost 176-213 .
The final match was Clint Saunders of Bellmont vs. Eli Little of Huntington North. Clint opened the match with three strikes and never looked back, winning the championship match 253-156.
