Claudine Trotter Mansfield

     Claudine Trotter Mansfield, 91, of Decatur, passed away Monday, September 9, 2013, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    She was born September 25, 1921, in Birmingham, Ala., to the late Benjamin and Myrtle (Glenn) Trotter. She married the late John P. Sr. on December 17, 1944.    
    Claudine grew up in Mississippi and Alabama. In the early 1940's she served as the Chief Clerk of the Birmingham office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). It was there she met her husband, a special agent for the FBI. She became a mother and housewife. Over the years the family lived in Alabama, Nebraska, Virginia, New Mexico, Texas and Iowa. After John retired from his law practice in 1985, the couple moved to Colorado.
    After the children were grown, Claudine joined the National Association of Republican Women. Over the next 30 years she served in various states, including Iowa and Colorado, and national offices. During that time she was in demand as speaker at many political meetings. In 1980 she served as an elector from Iowa.
    Following the death of her husband, Claudine returned to Iowa, then to Indiana to be near son, Martin and his wife, Julie.
    Among survivors are two sons, John P. (Wendy) Mansfield Jr. of Sleepy Hollow, Ill. and Martin F. (Julie) Mansfield of Berne; a daughter, Lynne Jacobsen of Belen, N.M.; a sister, Dorothy Anderson of Trafford, Ala.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Earl Turner; and a brother, Glenn Trotter.
    Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 13 and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 14 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.
    A Requiem Eucharist of the Resurrection will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, in St. George's Episcopal Church, with Father Larry Smith presiding.
    Preferred memorials are to St. George's Episcopal Church or the Animal Shelter of Wells county.
