City plans Stellar bid

September 4, 2013

Maybe it's no more than a proverbial pipe dream. Maybe chances aren't much better than hitting it big on a lottery. Maybe.
But Decatur Mayor John Schultz, with the support of city council, wants to give it a shot: Going after a Stellar Communities grant. A grant which could bring millions of dollars — perhaps $15 to $20 million over a three-year period — to the city to implement ideas recently advanced by the mayor's advisory committee. Ideas which the mayor called "a road map to where we want to go as a community."
Schultz talked about the Stellar Communities program at Tuesday night's city council meeting and afterward received council permission to spend $18,000 from CCD (Community Capital Development) monies to hire a firm to get the city started on its bid for a Stellar Communities grant.
