City merchants’ open house this weekend

November 13, 2012

The Decatur Small Business Association’s (SBA) fifth annual Christmas Open House will be held this Friday and Saturday — downtown and around town, SBA officials said
Over 20 businesses will be participating.
"Begin your Christmas shopping and check out the great holiday decorating ideas plus specials, entertainment, prizes, demonstrations and refreshments which will be abundant throughout the two-day event," the SBA said in a news release.
The Cornerstone Ladies Fellowship will be selling its cakes at Yvonne Marie’s Antique Mall, while live music is scheduled at The Grainery, and a toy train display will be set up at Whistle Stop Hobbies & Crafts.
New this year will be local authors offering signed copies of their books, including Monica Koldyke Miller with her historical romance "Threads of Betrayal," at Eichhorn Jewelry on Friday (11 a.m. - 2 p.m.) and at Ritter's Flowers & Gifts Saturday (11 a.m. - 2 p.m.)
Also at Ritter's, Max Miller will feature his book "A Historic Walking Tour of Downtown Decatur," on Friday from 6 p.m - 8 p.m.
Tom Shoup will be appearing at The Next Page Bookstore & More on Saturday  (10:30 a.m - 12:30 p.m) with his novels "Redemption," "Natural Balance" and "The Transient Changling."
Santa Claus and a live reindeer will be at the courthouse square on Saturday from 1 until 3 p.m. to meet children. Rides will be available on the Reindeer Express Train and Camelot Carriage Ride’s horse-drawn wagon will provide tours of the downtown area.
People visiting the open house will be eligible to win one of two grand prize drawings just by having special Stamp Cards marked at 10 different businesses. Cards are available at each participating business.
