City man guilty of molesting

November 17, 2011

A 33-year-old Decatur man, Andrew E. Stetler, was convicted by an Adams Circuit Court jury on Wednesday of two counts of child molesting and will be sentenced on December 27.
He was found guilty by the 11-woman, one-man jury of fondling and performing oral sex on two girls, ages seven and nine, in August of 2010.
After the verdict, and with the jury out of the courtroom, Stetler pleaded guilty to being an habitual criminal offender by admitting he was convicted in February of 2003 for child molesting (a crime committed in November of 2001). He also admitted that he was convicted in August of 2007 of failing to register with the sheriff's department that he is a convicted sexual offender.
The jury was out some three and a half hours before reaching a verdict. The trial lasted three days.
The trial was overseen by Judge Frederick A. Schurger, who will perform the sentencing next month.
The opposing attorneys were Adams County Prosecutor Chris Harvey and defense counsels Chad Kukelhan and Eric Orr.
