City man dies five days after being hit on moped

September 19, 2012

David G. Maclean, 81-year-old Decatur resident, who was injured September 11 in a car-moped accident in the city, died Sunday in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Maclean had been in the hospital since the accident.
Police said this morning they were attempting to determine if the death was a result of the traffic accident.
A police report issued after the accident said that at 11:08 a.m. on September 11, Virgean L. Bowers, 93, Bollman Street, was headed southwest on Village Green Drive and attempted to turn left onto Bollman. As she turned, her vehicle struck a moped driven by Maclean, who was thrown off the moped.
He was taken to Adams Memorial Hospital with what the police report said was a fractured hip/upper leg. Maclean was later transferred to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne and was listed in fair condition there the next morning.
Bowers was cited for failure to yield.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.
