City job openings announced

    The City of Decatur is accepting applications for three openings.

    The Decatur Police Department is accepting applications from people interested in being a full-time police officer.
    Chief Ken Ketzler said applicants must be at least 21 years old but not older than 36. Other stipulations: High school graduate (or GED), have a valid Indiana driver’s license, pass thorough background investigation, never convicted of a felony or a domestic violence offense, and complete an interview process; be of good reputation and character.
    Also, must pass a written test and physical agility test of the minimum standards for entrance to the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
    Ketzler said the hiring is contingent on that person successfully completing the physical and psychological testing for acceptance to the Public Employee Retirement Fund (PERF).
    Applications may be picked up at the police department, 521 N. Third Street and must be turned in to the department no later than 6 p.m. on Friday, April 6.

    The Decatur Fire Department is taking applications for full-time firefighter to replace veteran Walt Reiter, who will be retiring in August.
    Applications are available at the fire station, 206 S. Seventh St., and at the department’s website,
    The deadlilne to return all application documents is 5 p.m. on Friday, April 13.
    An aptitude test is scheduled for April 25 and, for those who pass the aptitude test, an agility test is set for April 28.

    The City of Decatur is accepting applications for the position of city engineer.
    Any interested applicant must possess a current PE license with the State Of Indiana, an announcement said.
