City departments being realigned
"It's really just a consolidation; a consolidation of employees and equipment," Decatur Mayor John Schultz said of a major change for city employees unveiled at Tuesday night's city council meeting.
And that consolidation is expected to bring some major savings annually.
With the retirement of Jim Inskeep, the city's longtime water superintendent, and the pending (January) retirement of Steve Krull, the parks and recreation department director for many years, the mayor put together a plan which will be a major change from the current setup of separate departments and department heads.
Under the plan — which takes effect immediately — current Street/Sanitation Superintendent Jeremy Gilbert and Utilities Auditor Dan Rickord take on expanded duties with new titles.
