Chief: Fire department building new station

August 5, 2013

The new fire station in Monroe is "coming along well," according to Monroe Fire Department Chief Russell Cook.
Cook told the Monroe Town Council last week that the new station, located on the northwest side of Monroe near the water tower, is expected to be completed on schedule, if not a little before. Cook declined to give a date, but said work is progressing quickly.
Cook also noted he has received comments from a few Monroe residents questioning how the town can afford a new fire station but not new roadways. "I just want to remind people the town of Monroe is not building the new fire station, the fire department is," said Cook. "We [the fire department] took out the loan for the building and we're going to be having a lot of pancake breakfasts for the next 50 years to pay for it."
