Charles S. Schaffer, 84, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012, at 1:07 p.m., in the Markle Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on July 14, 1927, in Adams County, to the late Carl and Myrtle (Baylor) Schaffer.
He married Helen Ruth Plumb on March 25, 1950, in Decatur; she passed away on July 2, 2011.
Charles was a member of the First Baptist Church in Decatur. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Charles retired from Central Soya in Decatur after 45 years of service. He had also worked at General Electric in Fort Wayne.
Among survivors are his daughter, Linda (Myron) Hamrick of Decatur; sister Anna Belle (Carl) Lichtenberger of Decatur; grandson Michael (Melissa) Hamrick of Decatur; granddaughter Julie (Rev. Dave) Yinger of Terre Haute; grandson Myron C. Hamrick of Decatur; and four great-grandchildren: Justin, Ashley, Cameron, and Lathyn Hamrick.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Jesse Leroy Schaffer,and one sister, Mary Jane Reinhardt.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18, from 2:30-5 and 6-8 p.m. in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 19, at 1 p.m., also at the funeral home, with Rev. Whitney West officiating. American Legion Post 43 Color Guard will conduct military services.
Preferred memorials are to the First Baptist Church in Decatur.
