Carroll hurler Steve Remesnik scattered five hits, striking out three with four walks, leading the 4A No. 4 Chargers to a 7-2 win Thursday night at Bellmont, which is rated No. 10 in 3A.
Carroll improved to 14-2 with the victory. Bellmont lost for the third straight time and slipped to 9-5, and 1-2 in the NHC.
Peyton Lengacher took advantage of two hit batsman by BHS starter Nick Fuelling as he stroked a two-run double to the left-center field fence to get the Chargers going in the top of the first inning. In a three-run sixth, Zach Vanlandingham slugged a two-run homer to put the visitors up 7-1.
Fuelling hit two more Carroll batters in the third, sandwiched by a walk, and BHS coach Ben Fawbush removed him in favor of Brandon Voglewede.
In the fourth inning, Bellmont coach Ben Fawbush argued with the home plate umpire when he called Landon Baker out on strikes, and was tossed out of the game. Baker had attempted to check his swing, but the umpire felt he did not, and would not ask for help, causing the confrontation.
In the fifth the Braves got to Remesnik as Ben Fullenkamp, Fuelling and Gunnar Cale all singled, with Cale getting the RBI.
Kawalsky doubled in the three-run Carroll sixth.
Fuelling walked, pinch hitter DJ Wilder singled and an error by the Carroll third baseman brought in one run for the Braves in the seventh.
Lengacher and Kawalsky both had two hits for the Chargers.
The Braves will travel to New Haven (8-2) on Tuesday and to 11-1 DeKalb (7th in 4A) on Thursday of next week.
Fuelling walked five and hit four, allowing three runs on two hits in two-plus innings. Voglewede allowed four runs on five hits with a walk and no strikeouts.
