Ceremony here will highlight child abuse

    Grace Baumgartner, an attorney for the Department of Child Services (DCS) in Adams and Wells counties, appeared with DCS employee Jody Hirschy with a request for the county commissioners on Monday.
    Baumgartner informed the commissioners that, in honor of April being Child Abuse Prevention Month, each county's chapter of the Indiana DCS will hold a candlelight ceremony on Tuesday April 16 at 7 p.m. She asked the commissioners if Adams County's candlelight service could be held in the east end of the main courthouse, by the stairs.
    The attorney explained that the ceremony will last 15-30 minutes and is being used by the statewide DCS to raise awareness of the fact that child abuse is a much more prevalent problem in each county than the public seems to realize.
