Central snags crown at Wapahani clash

    SELMA— The Lady Jets volleyball improved to a stellar 6-1 on the season after dominating the Wapahani Invitational Tournament on Saturday defeating Shenandoah, Wapahani, and Homestead.
    In best of three set matches, the Lady Jets swept Shenandoah in the opener 25-17, 25-18, while also sweeping the host school, Wapahani, 25-21, 25-22 in an exciting match. In the final match of the day, Central ousted 4A juggernaut Homestead in three sets 25-21, 9-25, 18-16 shrugging off a bad second set to pull off the victory.
    "We played outstanding volleyball all day!" praised AC coach Ashley Beard. 
    The wins were huge for Beard and the Lady Jets as Wapahani was ranked 8th in class 3A (just three spots from Bellmont, Central's only loss this season). The Raiders now sit a spot higher in this week's poll at seventh despite the loss. The Lady Jets, however, have moved from ninth in the 2A poll to fourth behind only Providence, Madison-Grant, and Heritage Christian.
    The most exciting match of the day was against the Spartans of Homestead....
