Candidate, candidates

January 31, 2012

The announcement by Adams County Council President Randy Colclasure that he will seek a new term this year means five Republicans are seeking three council nominations in the May primary.
Colclasure and Dennis Bluhm of rural Preble are bidding for new terms. Also in the primary field will be Rob Noetzel of Decatur, the GOP county chairman; Tony Mellencamp of Berne; and Pat Norton of rural Decatur.
The Democrats currently have two council candidates, former Berne mayor John Minch and Bob Thomas of Decatur. Meanwhile, former county assessor Judy Affolder will announce her candidacy for a council seat on Wednesday.
The third member of council up his year is Kenyon Sprunger of Berne, but he is not expected seek a new term.
Meanwhile, with less than two weeks to go in the filing period, three Republicans are seeking the post of Recorder: Deb Stimpson and Jim Voglewede Jr. of Decatur and Gerald Walker of Berne. The Democrats have one candidate for that office: Marcy Koons of Decatur.
A GOP race for Auditor is assured with Mary Beery of Decatur and Wes Kuntzman of Monroe seeking the nomination.
The only candidate for Treasurer at this point is Republican Ed Dyer, a Decatur resident.
No Democrats have filed for those two offices up to this point.
The current officer holders — Treasurer Rex Moore, Recorder Connie Mosier and Auditor Bill Borner — cannot seek new terms due to term limits.
Two county commissioner posts are up for election, districts one and three, and the current incumbents, Kim Fruechte and Doug Bauman, respectively, have announced that they will be bidding for new terms. They are the only candidates as of Monday.
One candidate for circuit court judge, Republican Chad Kukelhan, has revealed his intentions. The current judge, Frederick A. Schurger, a Democrat, has not said whether or not will seek a new term.
The filing deadline is noon on Friday, February 10.
