Campaign seeks funds to preserve city depot
"Save the Seventh St. Train Depot."
A fund using that title has been created by the Adams County Community Foundation (ACCF) to save the former Pennsylvania Railroad depot between Seventh and Eight Sts., near Monroe and Madison Sts. The goal is to raise $35,000 as quickly as possible, officials said.
The city-owned depot is situated beside the Chicago, Fort Wayne, and Eastern Railroad tracks.
Funds collected will be used for repairs to the building and to install necessary equipment so the structure is usable again, Mayor John Schultz said. The city has footed the bill for two previous repair projects and most of the work remaining to be done is to the interior of the building.
The long-term goal is to rent the depot out to an organization that can maintain it.
Several ideas have been discussed for using the depot, but it needs the additional repairs before the next steps are taken, according to an announcement from the ACCF. The ACCF also made a donation to the project.
Those who wish to help are asked to call the ACCF, 724-3939, or to visit the foundation at Second and Madison Sts., downtown. The ACCF will accept credit card donations made to the following address: www.AdamsCountyFoundation.org
