Busy weekend for firefighters

May 28, 2013

Memorial Day weekend proved busy for Decatur firefighters, who were dispatched four times between Saturday and Monday, with one of those incidents resulting in the apprehension of three juveniles.
On Saturday, firefighters were sent at 3:11 a.m. to the scene of an accident at 3682E US 224, where a vehicle driven by Darrell D. Hoverman had left the right side of the road and struck a drainage culvert, according to a spokesperson for the department.
Hoverman was trapped inside the vehicle for a time, and was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital after being rescued. The sheriff's department said this morning that the accident was still under investigation and no report would be given out at this time.
