Busse, Braves cop AC mat honors

    MONROE — Bellmont won a 16-team junior varsity wrestling invitational at Adams Central on Saturday, with South Adams third and AC fourth.
    The day's outstanding wrestler was Brad Busse of Bellmont at 189 pounds. one of five champions that Bellmont produced on the day en route to compiling 238 points to the 155 of New Haven, 105 of South Adams and 99 of Adams Central.
    Busse pinned Woodlan's Corey Hoersten in 56 seconds, the took out Leo's Nik Hackberth in 2:48 in the semi-finals. Busse topped AC's Ben Pfister in the fitle match, 5-2. Pfister won a 10-2 decision in the opening round, then felled Cam Smith of Wayne in 28 seconds and stopped Sam Dellinger of South Adams in 1:35 to earn his spot in the title match. Dellinger finished fourth.
    Also earning crowns for Bellmont were: Sean Bergman at 119, Diego Hutker at 130, Landon Baker at 215 and Ricardo Torres at heavyweight.
    New Haven had four titlists while South Adams, Northrop, Snider, Leo, and Bishop Dwenger all had one each.
    Garrett took sixth with 96 points, followed by Leo with 93, Bishop Dwenger 91.5, Woodlan 90, Jay County 90, Snider 67, Northrop 64, Huntington North 60, Heritage 34, Harding 28, Southern Wells 22, and Wayne five.
    Brady Harrison took the Starfires title as he felled Brock Braun of Bellmont in 5:12 in the 125-pouund championship match.
    Taking seconds for the Jets were: Dylan Garner at 140, Mason Call at 145, and Pfister. Kyle Kilsby of South Adams topped Alex Bollenbacher of AC in 4:54 for third place at 171 pounds.
    Earning seconds for Bellmont were: John Poling at 112, Braun at 125, and Trevor Love at 135 pounds. Logan Neher at 145 took third for the Braves while Tristen Brister was fourth at 152.
