Building trades class alive...for now

June 12, 2013

Another nail was driven into the future of the Building Trades program Tuesday as the Adams Central Board of Education picked up where it left off at last month's meeting and issued a reduction in force (RIF) notice to teacher Andy Hackenjos.
The RIF came as a result of the declining numbers of students enrolling in the program over the past several years. During the May meeting, Superintendent Mike Pettibone noted that numbers have hovered between 8-14 students per year, numbers the board feel does not support the continuation of the program.
Hackenjos told the board as of Tuesday he had 20 students lined up for the program next year, having personally spoken with 14 of those students and confirmed their commitment to the program.
