Brown named SA cage coach
Andrew P. Brown was approved by the South Adams School Board Tuesday as the new Starfire head boys basketball coach.
Andy has been the varsity assistant coach at Columbus North High School the past five years, the past four years under coach Jason Speer (37-26). Columbus North went 13-8 and 15-6 the past two season.
Andy graduated from Blue River Valley High School in 2001, where he led the Vikings to the state championship game his senior year. Andy was the Arthur L. Trester award recipient (mental attitude) for the IHSAA during the state finals that year.
Brown graduated from Ball State University and has also coached at Blue River Valley and Madison-Grant High School before moving to Columbus. He takes over for Ryan Biegel who went 6-34 that past two years and was coach the past five years for the Starfires. Andy and his wife Wendy, have two children ages two and one.
South Adams Athletic Director Mike Pries noted today that former Bellmont head football coaches Rick Burkhalter and Greg Meyer, who resigned their BHS posts a few months back, will join the South Adams varsity football staff, pending board approval next month.
Meyer and Burkhalter will coach the South Adams offense. Former offensive coordinator Jared Owens recently resigned to take the head coaching job at Crestview, Ohio.
"It's a great fit for us," stated Pries.
"They are definitely strong football guys and have that great championship experience. We're glad to have them working with (head coach) Jason Arnold."
