Brother Norbert Lengerich, 84, of Austin, Texas, passed away on December 1, 2012, at St. David’s Rehabilitation, Austin.
He was born on June 9, 1928, the youngest of 13 children of Anthony and Gertrude (Kintz) Lengerich of Decatur. The family had a farm in the area.
Norbert was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Church in Decatur, and he attended St. Joseph Elementary School and St. Joseph High School in Decatur as well, graduating from high school in1946.

He was almost immediately sent to Santarem, Brazil, where he began work in 1958 in maintenance and grounds work.
Brother Norbert was a most effective pastoral minister. For a number of years he drove through the countryside of the Diocese of Petrolina, Brazil, connecting with chapel communities far from the center of the Diocese. He often was the only minister of the Church the people would see for months at a time.

A local memorial service will be held at a later date.
