Brian Hakes earns FW All-City hockey honors

Brian Hakes of Decatur has been named to the Coaches All-City Team of the Fort Wayne High School Hockey Association.
A junior at Bellmont High School, the 6-3, 205-pound Hakes was one of four defensemen chosen to the 12-player squad (10 skaters, 2 goalies). The team was selected by coaches of the six teams; they could not vote for their own players.
Hakes is in his third season as a regular defenseman for the North Side Redskins in the Fort Wayne hockey league and is captain of the team. Other teams in the league are Homestead, Carroll, Leo, Snider and Northrop.
Moved to center for one game, Hakes scored four goals and set up a fifth on Sunday in Fort Wayne as North topped Kankakee in the state tournament, 7-3. The Redskins, however, failed to advance, having lost two previous games.
Hakes also is a defenseman/left winger for the Tier 1 AAA Midget Komets U-16 travel team, a member of the National Junior Prospects Hockey League (NJHPHL). The Komets have played 50-plus games in several states this season, including New York, Masassachusetts, Michigan, Illinois and Ohio.
He is the son of Greg and Jill Hakes of Decatur.
