Bellmont took advantage of a pair of breaks, driving for scores after the Norwell miscues to carve out a key 14-6 NHC victory over the Knights Friday night at Bob Worthman Stadium,  improving to 3-1 overall with three tough loop contests looming.
The game somehow dodged the storm bullets and was over by 9 p.m., seconds before a huge bolt of lightening cut open the skies.
"We did the things we needed to do to win," stated Bellmont's second-year head coach Larry Getts.
"It wasn't perfect, and was even a little ugly, but we're 3-1 and in the middle of the NHC, so I'll take it."
Senior halfback Brad Busse capped both scoring marches with one-yard touchdown runs. He gained 90 yards on 27 tough carries, averaging 3.3 yards per smash, and that was better than the 2.4 yards per tote Bellmont had overall as they held the ball for 55 plays, gaining 130 rushing yards, and kept the ball 21 more minutes than the 0-4 Knights    Also key was Bellmont converting four fourth down rushing attempts out of five tries.
It was the sixth straight Bellmont win over Norwell and the Braves now lead the series 20-15.
Busse had a hand in both Norwell fumbles, which paved the way for the BHS win. His punt from the BHS 15-yard line in the first period was fumbled with the Braves' Josh Hall recovering at the BHS 41. The Braves drove in for the score, and later went 26 yards on nine plays after Busse hit Norwell sophomore QB Piercen Harnish, jarring the ball loose with John Sefton recovering.
"That was important to take advantage of the opportunities that came our way," said Getts.
"I'm happy about that, and our punting game split the field a bunch so I was very pleased with that." Busse averaged 37 yards on five punts.
