Braves’ state swimmers eye more records

February 23, 2012

After winning their first sectional title in 32 years, a group of five Bellmonters in seven events will invade the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis Friday night for the preliminary round of the IHSAA State Swimming and Diving championships.
This squad is one of the greatest in school history, and it's definitely the fastest, with six records on the books to date, and a few more will be on the line this weekend at the fast IUPUI Natatorium pool.
Taking that title Saturday at Jay was not a surprise for fourth-year head coach Drew Norby.
"Coach (Mark) Young won several sectional titles in the late 1970s and the last one in 1980. That was a long time ago, but you don't get groups like very often. We have six quality seniors, including three who have been at it about nine years. They've set a bunch of the records, and we could have all but a couple by the end of the weekend," said Norby.
Though getting a placement would be a great cap to the season, the hard work has already been transferred to the record books. Bellmont is a champion again.
