Gathering several club teams from the region, Villa Lanes hosted a Baker Position Round for both the boys and girls high schools as the Braves and Squaws were each felled by their opponents after 5-5 ties were broken by total pins.
Huntington North, South Adams, and Norwell also were present in the bowling battles represented by both their boys and girls teams.
The Bellmont Braves club team battled first place Norwell as the teams traded blows in the unique style of bowling. In a Baker's battle, five bowlers from each team take turns bowling two frames a game until 10 games are complete with the best of 10 taking the victory.
The Braves broke a 2-2 tied with a second consecutive game victory in the fifth contest earning a 178-139 win. Norwell would respond with a 160-136 win in game six knotting the games at 3-3.
The Braves took game seven 158-126 before the Knights finally broke serve with two games of their own (169-148, 211-183). In the deciding 10th game, Bellmont held with a 159-156 narrow victory forcing the match to be decided by the total pin count of all 10 games.
The advantage went to the Knights narrowly who won with a 1,659-1,646 margin.
The Squaws suffered the same agonizing style of defeat against the South Adams Starfires. The Lady Stars were one win away from an outright victory with a 5-2 advantage but the Squaws lifted the final three games (165-115, 174-115, 147-146) to tie the match up at 5-5.
Bellmont did not do enough work in the early games to sustain the total pin count and South Adams survived with a 1,339-1,307 count to earn the win.
The teams recently completed their conference singles on Friday night.
