WOODBURN — Bellmont turned up the heat at Woodburn Saturday night, scoring at least 15 points in all four quarters while limiting the host Warriors to just 38 shots for the game in a 68-43 non-conference victory.
"We scored some points off of our press, and that's what I wanted us to do tonight," stated Bellmont coach Larry Patterson, who saw his Braves even their early-season mark at 1-1.
"That helped our shooting percentage (46 percent), and our points were spread out. We got into a little bit of foul trouble, so that's something that we're going to have to work on."
Guards Joe Baker and Payton Selking both scored 16 points and forward Nick Fuelling added 14, and four more players scored at least five points.
"We needed that one, though it was one we expected to win," said Patterson.
Utilizing a full-court press, the Braves jumped out 17-7 at the first stop, and held that 10-point advantage at half, 32-22. The Warriors couldn't keep up with the Braves in the second half as Bellmont pulled away.
Bellmont forced 21 turnovers while committing only 11, and the Braves aggressively hit the boards, grabbing 33 rebounds with 15 on the offensive end, compared to 22 rebounds and just six offensive for the Warriors, now 0-2.
The Braves took advantage of Woodlan's errant passes against the press early in the game. Fuelling recovered a loose ball at midcourt and tipped it to a sprinting Brian Fullenkamp, who laid it in for a 23-7 BHS lead early in period two.
Fullenkamp and Zach Hake both scored five points for the Braves, while Kyle Lehrman and Logan Smith both scored six, and both left the game with five fouls.
Clint Romines led the Warriors with 10 points while Brock Hines and Nick Patterson both scored nine. Alex Emenhiser added seven and Spencer Mumma scored six.
The Warriors made one second half run. Mumma hit a pair of free throws then Hines dropped in a trey from the left corner to cut the BHS lead to 10, 44-34 with 2:03 left in period three. Selking answered right back with a three-pointer from the left side. Later, Fuelling grabbed a loose ball and broke for the bucket, stopping and popping in a 10-footer for the 49-34 Bellmont lead..
It remained a 15-point game until the final four minutes when the Braves pulled away.
Smith led BHS with eight rebounds while Fuelling pulled down seven and Hake had five. Fuelling dished out four assists and had six steals while Selking had three assists and two steals.
The Braves have two weeks off before playing at Heritage on Dec. 11.
"We're going to do some individual stuff, work in the weight room and do some conditioning. At one point we're up 17 or 18, and we got a little tired. We have to be in better condition if we're going to press," noted Patterson.

Jayvees To 2-0
Bellmont outscored Woodlan's jayvees 13-5 in the fourth period to score a 40-36 victory, earning a 2-0 start to the season.
Jacob Schueler led nine Bellmont scorers with 10 points while Lance Vergara had seven, Cameron Bienz five, Ryan Kohne 4, and Josh Hall four.
Hall added four steals and two assists and Matt Chronister and Mason Selking both pulled down four rebounds for BHS..
