In the second match of the NHC meet between East Noble at Bellmont Saturday at the Teepee, BHS sophomore sub 132-pounder Diego Hutker scored the first takedown against Knights' senior Nick Yoquelet.
Okay, Yoquelet (son of former BHS wrestler Sean Yoquelet) did the rest, winning by fall in 2:22, but Hutker's early takedown ended up being the most significant two-pointer of the day as 90 minutes later it earned Bellmont a team point in a 38-37 victory over Coach Keith Hoffar's squad, giving Bellmont an all-time mark of 28-0 versus East Noble.
A clutch win by Bellmont's Jon Poling in the final match of the day was also critical in the 12th BHS win of the season.
"That just goes to show that everything is important in this sport," said Hoffar, noting that the Hutker takedown gave Bellmont an edge the that vital category, first points scored, which is the eighth criteria on the list of items that is used to decide who wins a tied prep dual meet.
"You want to put yourself in position to win, you want to do that against the best, and we did that. But a true sign of quality is that Bellmont pulled that (win) off anyway," said Hoffar.
