NEW HAVEN—Bellmont is still figuring out how to win during this young wrestling season.
On the road Tuesday night, the Braves took down the Bulldogs in an NHC battle but not by the dominant score fans are accustomed to seeing. Coach Brent Faurote's green squad earned a 40-27 victory over New Haven.
Of the 14 bouts in the contest, Bellmont won eight of them and netting five pins, the two biggest came in the final two battles. With Bellmont up 31-27 and just Trevor Love and Jacob Bergman left to wrestle, the two seniors put the team on their shoulders putting the match out of reach and ensuring the victory.    Love pinned Leonard Sanchez at 3:06 to seal the win and Bergman won a 6-1 decision to put the icing on the cake for a 13-point Braves' win.
The Braves jumped out to a 7-0 lead after a major decision by Logan Neher over Rashad Jackson-Tatum and then a decision by Brett Baker over Luis Chacon 8-6. That lead quickly diminished to just one when New Haven's Brad Berhoff topped Corey Coshow at 182 in a stunning third period pin making the score 7-6.
Brad Busse did his thing at 195 pinning Matt Robinson in under a minute but the Bulldogs would not go quietly as Alex Schultz topped the Braves' Flectcher Shaneyfelt in a 3-1 decision, then Cody Fields went down at the hands of David Escalante at the heavyweight match-up to make it 13-12 in favor of Bellmont.
