Braves host Stars at Teepee tonight

The Braves and Starfires tip off tonight at the Teepee in what should be an excellent match-up of two teams with similar stories this season.

The Braves come into the new year with a 2-4 record after getting blown out by a tough Wayne squad in the opener, three of the top tier ACAC teams in Garrett, Heritage and Adams Central, and their only conference game a landslide loss against a state-bound New Haven team. The Braves’ two wins came from the ACAC’s bottom of the barrel Woodlan Warriors and an impressive stand against the Patriots.
South Adams comes into the contest 3-5 with wins against Union City by two, Daleville, and Parkway, Ohio by 15 points. The Stars were defeated handily by Jay County in an offensive nightmare for SA, 67-19. Bluffton also handled the Starfires with ease and the Heritage Patriots defeated South Adams at the Stardome by 6 earlier in December. That’s the same team Bellmont beat at home, in a low-scoring defensive scrap, 43-39.
The Stars win over the Union City Indians, 55-52, in their opener came just a week before the Flying Jets of Adams Central got a hold of them and posted an embarrassing 86-25 shellacking at the Hangar by comparison. The Braves’ recent loss at AC was not near as lopsided as Union City’s and the Braves led 17-5 early in the first quarter of that game and held their own against the Jets’ length and a packed, pro-AC crowd. South Adams’ latest win against Parkway mirrored AC’s earlier win against the Panthers where AC won in Ohio by 14.
The similarities between the Braves and Stars this year go further than their schedules. Both squads are being led by first-year coaches molding their teams accordingly.
County bragging rights are on the line for both teams tonight with the evening at the Teepee kicking off with a JV contest at 6 p.m.
