Bellmont scored eight pins and a tech fall, winning 11 of 14 matches in a 59-11 rout of Fort Wayne Snider Thursday at Bellmont. The victory put Bellmont at 11-2 on the season. The Braves travel to East Noble Saturday for a conference triple-dual involving DeKalb and Norwell.
Three of the Bellmont wins came with late flurries. Jacob Girod broke a 2-2 tie in period three with an escape, then added a late takedown and nearfall for a 7-2 win over Erique Early at 112. Bobby Keuneke followed with a throw in overtime to beat Mason Meling 8-6. Anthony Stebing trailed 5-0 in the first period, then hit a pair of tilts in the third period, pinning James Starks in 5:17 for the key win at 152.
Blake Adams hit two fireman's carries then turned Tyler McKee in 1:23 at 125 pounds for BHS.
Dewey Melcher returned to the lineup at 135 pounds after missing the last few meets with illness, and used an easy-over for a 3:36 fall over Carson Clarke at 135 pounds.
Brooks Faurote connected on four first-period takedowns, then reversed Aaron Bender in a 3:36 fall for the Braves over Aaron Bender at 140.
At 160, BHS senior John Mahlan hit an early takedown, then head-hunted and caught Jarrell Haralson for the 1:40 fall.
Senior Ryley Hankenson remained unbeaten, using his Seitz-pin combination to down Snider's Brione Morgan in 2:33
Junior Isaac Birch hit several strong single-leg shots, then hit a Palmer-cradle for a 3:32 fall over Logan Dan at 189.
Senior Travis Thatcher remained unbeaten, hitting seven takedowns in a 19-5 major win over Snider's Rahald Blackman at 215.
No. 1 rated heavyweight Daniel Meyer continued his perfect season with a match-ending headlock on Jeremiah Kelsaw for a pin in 1:21.
Snider's wins came at 103, 130 and 145. Jordan Richards went the distance in his second varsity match at 103 for the Braves, scoring a late reversal in a 7-3 loss to Luis Marquez. Jared Wilson scored a 20-4 tech fall over Bellmont's Willie Mahlan. K.C. Corey scored five third-period points in a 9-7 win over Jacob Bergman.
Despite the route, Bellmont coaches felt that Snider has definitely improved over recent years and put out several solid wrestlers.
