The Braves ended their four-game losing skid on Friday night as they hosted the Huntington North Vikings from 4A.
Bellmont ended their offensive woes in a big way earning an 11-1 victory over the Vikings in a six-inning affair that was closed by three Braves' runs in the bottom half of the last inning.
"We finally played the way that Gary and I and the rest of the coaches knew we could play," praised Bellmont coach Ben Fawbush. "The guys believed in themselves and went out and played one heck of a baseball game."
After two scoreless innings, Bellmont took full advantage of some shaking Huntington North pitching as the Vikings starter, Austin Hale started the inning by walking Sawyer Boyd and Parker Zeser. The runners advanced to second and third when Hale balked on a hesitation move to first base.
Max Collier's squeeze bunt was perfection for Bellmont as the speedy Braves' left fielder got the job done and beat out the throw to first as well. Boyd scored with ease but Parker Zeser moved home on the overthrow to first base making it 2-0 Bellmont.
After stealing second, Collier scored on a single by Thomas Mitchem keeping the inning alive and prompting a change on the mound for the Vikings. Another inexperienced hurler for the visiting team, Mitch Hughes, stepped in for Hale and walked Brett Baker, the first Braves batter he faced putting two runners on.
After getting an out, Dylan Call blasted a single to right field scoring both Mitchem and Baker who had moved up on a wild pitch to make it 5-0. Call would score two batters later on a wild pitch for the sixth run.
Collier started the fourth drawing a walk, then Mitchem earned his second hit of the day, a huge blast near Monroe Street that scored two runs on the four-bagger making it 8-0 as the Braves pulled away even further.
