Boy & Girls Club launches fund drive
The Boys and Girls Club of Adams County on Wednesday kicked off its 2011 fundraising campaign with meetings in Decatur and Berne.
According to campaign chairman Ron Dull, this year's goal is to raise $150,000 for operation of the north and south county branches of the Boys and Girls Clubs, with sites in Decatur and Berne.
Dull said the first of three phases of fundraising was completed in January, when the club's board of directors and staff members made contributions. The current capital campaign drive — the Flooring Phase — will feature face-to-face solicitations from area businesses and individuals who have been long-time Boys and Girls Club supporters. The current drive will wrap up on May 4. During May and June, mass mailings will go out during the third prong of the fundraising effort.
"The capital campaign is the foundation for the year's cash flow that the clubs need to function," said Dull. Eighty percent of the club's total fundraising goal will be obtained during the current drive, he added.
According to literature distributed by club officials, 81 percent of the money raised will go toward program expenses and 17 percent will be used for "management and general services expenses." The remaining 2 percent is earmarked for fundraising expenses.
Stressing the countywide nature of the fund drive, Dull said all donations to the Boys and Girls Club of Adams County will go into a general fund, to be distributed to the Berne and Decatur sites as determined by board members.
The purpose of the Boys and Girls Club of Adams County, according to a fundraising brochure, is to "enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens."
Members of the campaign committee include Kevan Biggs, Keith Blythe, Russ Flueckiger, Lee Flueckinger, Doug Nelson, Tracy Noetzel, Jessica Rambo, Eric Sprunger, Toby Sprunger, Armanda Turney and Tammy Velasco.
Christen Sprunger is the executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Adams County.
