Bob Worthman Stadium...showing its age

Officials at North Adams Community Schools are looking into the "renovation or replacement" of facilities at Bob Worthman Stadium, according to a report given to school board members Tuesday.
Larry Carty, buildings and grounds supervisor for the school district, said a proposal to renovate the stadium "has been expanded from just restrooms to also include locker rooms, shower rooms, offices and storage areas." He said plans call for upgrades to heating, ventilation and plumbing equipment and lighting at the facilities, as well as bringing the stadium into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Carty said the Fort Wayne architectural firm of Barton-Coe-Vilamaa has been contracted to provide detailed specifications and to prepare a cost estimate for the project. The firm's report will be used to determine options for the future of the stadium and facilities, he said.

In other business at Tuesday's board meeting, Finance Committee chairman Ben Faurote reported the school district earned slightly more than $12,200 in interest on investments during 2011.
Cash management treasury bills invested with the First Bank of Berne earned $3.31 last year, earning interest at a rate of .05 percent. The total investment at year's end was $6,507. A similar account at First Merchant's bank earned $12,233 in interest during 2011. The year-end balance for that account was $5.8 million.
In a pair of personnel moves approved by the board, Greg Koons resigned as high school assistant football coach, while Patricia Whisman was assigned as 21st Century program after-school paraprofessional at Northwest Elementary.
The board met in executive session prior to the regular meeting to discuss collective bargaining and the evaluation of personnel.
