BMS crowns spelling bee champion

January 20, 2014

Bellmont Middle School eighth-grader Madison Neher correctly spelled the word “serephic” to claim first place in the BMS Spelling Bee held last week.
Neher, the 14 year old daughter of Chris and Jana Neher,  bested 31 other spellers from the middle school and endured through 19 rounds of spelling (including the word “erstwhile” in the 18th round) to capture the championship.
Eighth-grader Lance Williamson claimed the runner-up prize. Neher will go on to represent BMS at the Adams County Spelling Bee, to be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 27 at South Adams High School.
