Republican Dennis Bluhm has announced his candidacy and filing for re–election as an at–large member of the Adams County Council.
Bluhm, a Peterson-area resident, is a graduate of Ohio Northern Univeraity College of Pharmacy and was co–owner of Village Pharmacy in Decatur and Berne. He retired after 32 years as Director of Pharmacy at Wells Community Hospital in Bluffton and has served as a staff pharmacist at CVS Pharmacy in Decatur and Berne.
He is a resident of Kirkland Township and has held elected and appointed positions at the local and state levels.
Bluhm currently serves as one of three at-large members to the Adams County Council and serves is its representative to the Adams County Health Board;.He served as a member to the Decatur Parks and Recreation Board; as a founding member of the advisory board of North East Indiana Hospice; was a member and treasurer of the Adams Central Scholarship Committee; a 20–year member of the Adams Central School Board; appointed Region 3 Director of the Indiana School Board, and served as chairman of the Nomination and Awards Committee.
He is a member of the Decatur F and M Blue Lodge, the Fort Wayne Scottish Rite, and the Fort Wayne Mizpah Shrine.
Bluhm is married to the former Judie Burke, of Decatur, and they have four children: Betsy Chamberlain, of Decatur; Steve Bluhm, of Fort Wayne; Kathy Skekloff, of Fort Wayne; and Deb Dubach (deceased), of Decatur, Alabama.
The Bluhms are active members of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, where Dennis serves as a member of the finance committee, the endowment fund, and adult Sunday School teacher.
Bluhm said in making his announcement that he "believes current local, state, and national, economic conditions will require local officials and public employees at every level of government to have an even greater vision, vigilance, and commitment to responsible stewardshipin the appropriation, allocation, distribution, and use of county funds and resources entrusted to our care."
