FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Bishop Luers High School has fired longtime football coach Matt Lindsay, who won nine state titles during his 26 years as the Fort Wayne school’s head football coach.
The school said Sunday in a news release that Lindsay was terminated because of ‘‘violations of school and Diocesan policies, and his violations of his employment contract obligations.’’ Lindsay had been with the school for 33 years, including the last 26 years as head football coach. He had also been the school’s athletic director for the past 21 years.
Lindsay told the Journal Gazette (http://bit.ly/U3mbUu ) that he loves ‘‘the people and the kids, and I wish them all the best.’’ He declined further comment.
Luers principal Mary Keefer would not provide more information Sunday on why Lindsay was fired.
