Bill E. Beard

    Bill E. Beard, 75, of Monroeville, passed away at 10:04 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital following an extended illness.
    Bill was born on July 21, 1936, in Van Wert County, to the late John W. and Marie M. (Allmandinger) Beard.
    He married Shirley A. Adams on November 30, 1958; she preceded him in death on August 28, 2011.
    Bill served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Monroeville, where he had served as trustee for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 420.
    Bill retired in 1986 as a mechanic from Phelps-Dodge after 33 years of service and had also worked part-time at the Napa store in Monroeville. He enjoyed gardening and was a Purdue Boilermaker and Chicago Cubs fan. He also enjoyed repairing things for family and friends.
    Among survivors are his daughters, Diana K. (Kenneth) Harris, Rita M. (Daniel) Scott, and Jacque R. (Raymond) Diedrich, all of Monroeville; son Bill E. (Sandra) Beard of Fort Wayne; brother Russell Beard of Convoy, Ohio; fiancee Virginia A. Bauman of Monroeville; special nephew Rick (Deb) Beard of New Haven; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by four brothers, Richard, Carl, Robert, and Leo Beard; and one sister, Lola Beard.
    Visitation will be Friday, April 20, from 1-9 p.m., at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
    Funeral services will be Saturday, April 21, at the United Methodist Church, Monroeville, Rev. Mark Walus officiating.
    Burial will be in the Monroeville Cemetery, with military graveside services to be conducted by the American Legion and VFW.
    Preferred memorials are to the United Methodist Church, Monroeville, or to the Cornerstone Youth Center, Monroeville.
