Bids are taken to finish repairs at work-release center

August 31, 2011

The Adams County Work-Release Center, located beside the jail, has been in operation for more than 12 years and, now that its floor has been releveled, additional work is required to complete renovations before separate space is created for men and women.
Sheriff Shane Rekeweg attended Monday's meeting of the county commissioners with 10 price quotations for varied jobs, all of which were taken under advisement until next Tuesday's commissioners' meeting, a day later than usual due to the Labor Day holiday.
    The bids were as follows:
    • Building walls and installing doors:
—$24,687 by Michael Kinder and Sons, which also submitted an additional quote of $1,785 to install two remote alarms on doors.
—$16,641 by Arnold Construction of Decatur.
    • Painting:
—$8,694 by Fruchte Painting and Decorating of Decatur.
—$3,160 by Fullenkamp Painting of Decatur.
—$8,600 by Jerry Geimer Contracting of Decatur.
    • Flooring (tile and some carpeting):
—$12,239.40 by Myers Floor Covering of Decatur.
—Two bids by Miller's Floors and More of Decatur: $10,450.80 to put new tile on top of old tile and $13,378.63 to remove the old tile and put new tile down.
—$11,400 by Complete Flooring Installation of Decatur.
On another matter, the commissioners accepted the 2012 insurance rates for county employees in four designations:
Dental coverage, provided by Securian; vision coverage, provided by Ameritas Group; group life coverage, provided by Anthem Life Insurance; long-term disability coverage, provided by Mutual of Omaha.
