BHS wrestlers earn academic honors
Five members of the state finals Bellmont wrestling team were honored recently for more than athletic achievement as two were placed on the first team Academic All-State and three more were honorable mention All-State.
Ryley Hankenson, the 171-pound wrestler for the Braves, joined fellow senior and 152-pound wrestler Will Busse on the Academic first team.
Hankenson and Busse both shine in the classroom as well as on the mat with Hankenson posting a sparkling 3.94 GPA which ranks him 10th out of 209 and Busse owns a 3.87 GPA which is good for 19th in his soon-to-be graduating class.
Another member of the class of 2011, Daniel Meyer, was awarded honorable mention status as the heavyweight grappler has a 3.35 GPA putting him 62nd in his class.
Two junior wrestlers for Bellmont were on the honorable mention list as well. The 135-pound Dewey Melcher and 140-pound Brooks Faurote were selected to the honor list. Faurote currently sits 19th out of 176 juniors academically with a 3.68 GPA while Melcher is 33rd in his class with a 3.47 GPA.
