BHS takes rain-shortened event

September 15, 2011

Rain washed out the number two singles match in the Bellmont-South Adams tennis encounter Wednesday evening at the BHS courts but the Braves prevailed in three of the other four matches for a non-conference victory over the Starfires.
In a battle of number one players, Bellmont's Payton Selking continued his strong season with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Alex Huber while in the other singles match at number three, Mark Muselman got the only South Adams point with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Evan Selking.
Both doubles matches went to the Braves as Matt Stidam and Garrett McCord dominated Ian Frank and Derek Schwartz by a 6-1, 6-0 count at number one and in the second match, Austin Mann and David Baker won a 7-3 tiebreaker to win the first set at 7-6 and then cruised to a 6-1 second set victory over J. D. Tarr and Jonathan Steffen.
The number two singles match between Bellmont's Phillip Bauman and South Adams' Scott Hoeppner was cancelled due to rain.
The three junior varsity matches that were played all went to Bellmont.
Mason Selking blanked Brayden Myers at number one singles 8-0 while Nick Faurote earned an 8-1 decision against Jared Rife at number two. Isaac Corral and Logan Baker dropped an 8-0 lasso over Landon Lehman and Dylan Pierce in the lone doubles match.
