Beverly J. Bassett

    Beverly J. Bassett, 78, of Monroe, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital.
    Beverly was born on May 21, 1933, in Decatur, to the late Walter and Helen (Ross) Lister.     On September 6, 1953, she married James R. “Jim” Bassett. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2010.
    Beverly was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur, where she taught Sunday school and was involved in the women’s circle. She retired from the United Telephone Company in Decatur.
    She is survived by a son, Scott (Calynn) Bassett, of Woodburn; a daughter, Mrs. Nan (Kevin) Cook, of Decatur; a brother, Gerald “Jerry” (Marcia) Lister, of Ft Wayne; six grandchildren, Mia (Ray) Jackson; Ryan J. Bassett; Brandy (Clint) Knaub; Jaime Loshe; Alyssa Cook; and Ashley Cook; five great-grandchildren, Kiersten, Taylor and Emma Knaub; Keenen Jackson; and Damien Saalfrank.
    She was preceded in death by a brother, Merlin Lister, and a sister, Pam VanCamp.
    Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home.
    Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2012, at First United Methodist Church, with calling one half hour prior to service. Rev. Martha Lyon will be officiating and burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.
    Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
