Betty A.Yost

Betty A. (McComb) Yost, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2012, surrounded by her family.
She was born on January 9, 1927, in Fort Wayne, the daughter of James and Madeline McComb, and granddaughter of David O. McComb.
Betty graduated from North Side High School in 1945 and went on to attend Western College for Women — now Miami University — transferring to Indiana University as a junior, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
She married Robert Yost in 1948 and together they raised four daughters, Gretchen Raschke, Becky Goldwasser, Amy Nixon, and Lisa Yost.
Betty and Bob were fortunate to spend many happy hours with friends and family, living in beautiful settings in Decatur, Fort Wayne, and Clear Lake, Indiana, then later relocating to the foothills of the Rocky Mountains outside Loveland, Colorado; and in Tucson, Arizona.
Together Betty and Bob enjoyed extensive travel in the U.S., Mexico, and Europe. Betty also enjoyed literature, visual art, and music and volunteered at Head Start and at Adams Central School. She was a doll collector and member of the New Haven doll club, the Red Hats society and served for several years as a housemother at the Pi Beta Phi house at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan.
Betty returned from Arizona to Fort Wayne in 2001 to be near family and friends in Indiana after Robert’s passing in 1999.
Among survivors are her four daughters, Gretchen (Dan) Raschke, Becky (Robert, deceased) Goldwasser, Amy (Tom) Nixon, Lisa (Tom Skovholt) Yost, and beloved grandchildren: Jenny Raschke, Kim (Matt) Gibson, Zachary (Vicky) Goldwasser, Jacob (Heather Greening) Goldwasser, Robert (Kristen) Vass, Margaret (Aaron), Amanda (Tim) Culbertson Lindsay (Brad) Neal, and Rachel Yost-Dubrow; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Yost, and by two beloved sisters, Jeanne McComb and Patricia (McComb) Wilson.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue, and one hour prior to services.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, also at the funeral home, with Rev. Dr. Kathleen Haller officiating.
Preferred memorials are to the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo and Fort Wayne Women’s Bureau.
