Berniece A. Hackman, 86, Decatur, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
She was born in Decatur Jan. 8, 1928, to the late John A. and Mary A. (Bernard) Kintz.
On May 28, 1949 she married Anselm B. (Jack) Hackman; he preceded her in death Oct. 20, 2013.
Berniece was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. She had worked for Monmouth Elementary as a teacher’s aide.
Among survivors are three daughters, Deborah (Robert) Ault of Fort Wayne, Sarah (Eric) Johnson of Fort Wayne and Amy (Patrick) Smith of Churubusco; two sons, Christopher (Donna) Hackman of Avilla and Andrew (Donna) Hackman of New Haven; a brother, John (Sis) Kintz of Decatur; four sisters, Marge Schultz of Decatur, Ruth (Bob) Bahler of Anderson, Isabelle (Phil) Gamble of Edmond, Wash. and Pat (Larry) Daniels of Decatur; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Berniece was preceded in death by a son, Sam, and a daughter, Danette, who died in infancy; two brothers, Daniel and William; and three sisters, Mary Alice Whitright, Helen Ruggles and Dolores Read.
A 9:30 a.m. reciting of the Holy Rosary will be held Monday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, followed by a 10 a.m. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial.
A memorial visitation and gathering will follow the mass in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Father David Voors will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
