Two weeks after putting in place Adams County's first so-called "super abatement" phase-in policy to encourage and reward local job development, Berne City Council on Monday approved a five-year waiver of all real and personal property tax liability for the FCC (Adams) automotive supply company. Under the terms of the new tax abatement policy, the company will receive 100 percent tax freedom for five years and partial tax relief for five additional years.
FCC officials in early May announced plans for a 75,500 square foot addition at the company's Parr Road site. The investment includes $6.3 million in property improvements and $35 million in new equipment that will be in place by March of 2015.
Sandra Affolder, administrations manager at FCC (Adams), said the expansion project will add $1.5 million to the company's annual payroll and will create 50 new jobs in addition to the 228 workers currently employed at the plant. At that time, company officials said they would seek tax abatements for the improvements.
